Factors associated with adherence to biosafety protocols in dental students at Universidad Santo Tomás

Objective: Identify factors associated with adherence to biosafety protocols in dental students at the Santo Tomás University.
Materials and methods: Cross-sectional analytical study carried out on dental students, who answered a validated questionnaire with Likert-type questions, on adherence to biosafety protocols, applied online through Google forms. Qualitative data were presented with absolute frequencies and percentages; The quantitative data were summarized with measures of central tendency and dispersion, in accordance with the behavior of normality. The questionnaire score was taken as the dependent variable and was evaluated against sociodemographic variables with the Kruskal Wallis test. Values p < 0.05 were of statistical significance. The study had the endorsement of a research committee and a favorable ethical concept. The information was processed in the Stata 14.2 program. Results: A total of 135 students participated in the study, with a predominance of women (71.9%) and an average age of 22.3 years. 77% of students adhered to high-moderate biosafety protocols. Age over 23 years and female sex were factors associated with better adherence. Conclusions: Adequate adherence to the biosafety protocols of the dental clinics was found, where age and sex are determining factors for adherence by the students.
