Abstract

The patients with dental prosthesis must receive a control program that allows the dentist to look for the state of them, as well as their condition of oral health. One of the most important aspects in this process is the evaluation of oral hygiene; nevertheless, although indices for such aim exist, they have not been implemented in effective form in the patients in order to control the state of hygiene of the dental prosthesis. The bacterial plate adheres to any hard surface of oral cavity, even on the surface of the dental prosthesis, in form similar to the observed thing in the natural teeth; the removal of the dental plate is essential for the maintenance of soft oral weaves, avoiding in addition the formation to spots and/or the halitosis. The reproducibility of an index that allows evaluating the hygiene of the dental prosthesis constitutes in an aspect fundamental and one of the initial operations with the intention to implement a promotional and preventive program oriented to the population with dental prosthesis.
